Smithills Open Farm is a family run business which opened to the public in Spring 2000. We provide a friendly atmosphere for everyone! At Smithills Open Farm we have a fine collection of traditional farm animals including cows, sheep, goats, pigs, horses, chickens, as well as a large variety of other weird and wonderful animals, such as llamas, deer, rhea, alpacas, peacocks, owls and even snakes. A lot of our animals are under cover and you are able to see them close up. We love to have school visits. Since we opened in Spring 2000 we have had lots of schools, nurseries and other organised groups visiting us with children of all ages. Lots of local schools visit us as well as schools out of the local area. The farm is a working classroom, see the children learn whilst enjoying themselves! Here's what one Bolton teacher had to say "The children liked all the animals and really enjoyed being able to touch and feel them as well as feeding some of them. It is such a good trip out and is really great value for money" As members of Farms for Schools we encourage schools to link with the curriculum and in particular foundation stage KS1 and KS2. We are more than happy to help you get the best out of your visit so when booking please talk to us about your requirements. School trips are welcome to bring their own packed lunch and we have areas both inside and outside where this can be eaten. We have a cafe which sells hot and cold food, ice cream, snacks and drinks.
